Schema

Each record in the dataset has the following shape.

Schema
Field Type Description Example
name string Full method name including Object. prefix Object.keys
signature string Method signature with parameter names Object.keys(obj)
description string Concise description of what the method does Returns an array of a given object's own enumerable string-keyed property names.

Object.assignObject.assign(target, ...sources)Copies all enumerable own properties from one or more source objects to a target object. Returns the modified target object.
Object.createObject.create(proto, propertiesObject)Creates a new object with the specified prototype object and optional property descriptors.
Object.definePropertiesObject.defineProperties(obj, props)Defines new or modifies existing properties directly on an object using property descriptors. Returns the object.
Object.definePropertyObject.defineProperty(obj, prop, descriptor)Defines a new property or modifies an existing property on an object using a property descriptor. Returns the object.
Object.entriesObject.entries(obj)Returns an array of a given object's own enumerable string-keyed [key, value] pairs.
Object.freezeObject.freeze(obj)Freezes an object so that no properties can be added, removed, or changed. Returns the frozen object.
Object.fromEntriesObject.fromEntries(iterable)Transforms a list of key-value pairs (e.g. from Object.entries or a Map) into a new object.
Object.getOwnPropertyDescriptorObject.getOwnPropertyDescriptor(obj, prop)Returns a property descriptor for an own property (one directly on the object) of a given object.
Object.getOwnPropertyDescriptorsObject.getOwnPropertyDescriptors(obj)Returns all own property descriptors of a given object as an object keyed by property names.
Object.getOwnPropertyNamesObject.getOwnPropertyNames(obj)Returns an array of all own property names (including non-enumerable ones, excluding Symbol-keyed) found on the given object.

Sources and methodology

This dataset enumerates all static methods available on the JavaScript built-in Object constructor as defined by the ECMAScript specification and documented on MDN Web Docs. Each entry includes the full qualified method name (e.g. Object.keys), its formal parameter signature, and a concise description of its behavior.

Methods are drawn from across ECMAScript editions: foundational methods like Object.create and Object.defineProperty were introduced in ES5, while more recent additions such as Object.fromEntries (ES2019), Object.hasOwn (ES2022), and Object.groupBy (ES2024) are also included. The dataset covers the complete set of 23 static methods as of ES2026 (October 2026); no Object static methods were added after ES2024.

This dataset is useful for documentation generators, JavaScript teaching tools, API explorers, code editors with autocompletion, or any application that needs programmatic access to the JavaScript standard library’s Object API surface. Instance methods inherited via Object.prototype (e.g. hasOwnProperty, toString) are not included — only static methods callable directly on Object itself.

Versioning

URLs under /v1/ are stable: field names and types will not change in a way that breaks consumers. Values can be corrected or records added when the upstream source changes; schema-incompatible updates ship under a new version path. See the js-object-methods changelog for this dataset's history.
